About Us

Registered as a CMAS training facility in October 1992, Meyerton Scuba Diving Club was founded by Jan and Gillian Vorster and has been active ever since. Situated in Meyerton we are the link between Johannesburg and the rest of the Vaal triangle and the closest to the well-known Bass Lake.

We specialise in dive outings, local and abroad but often embark on other activities such as sky-diving, paintball, gliding, paragliding and other adventures required by our members.

When doing qualification dives, all members are welcome to join us.  Polar bear weekend, which is done in the middle of winter. Regular sea outings. We try to do overseas trips occasionally or on demand.

Chairman: Jan Vorster

Jan Vorster is the chairman and has a few certificates under his belt (see table below). His dedication of over 35 years is evident of his passion for diver training and all underwater activities. With more than 3000 dives experience in a wide variety of fields, local and abroad, it is no wonder he often gives training overseas. His experience has also earned him a position on the CMAS-ISA executive committee as the director of technical diver training in South Africa. He is responsible for Cave diver and Trimix diver training of all levels.

Training Officer: Gillian Vorster

Gillian Vorster serves as the club training officer and secretary. It is my responsibility to organise all the courses that we run. I also do a newsletter every month and general office duties. I have been diving since 1989 and have completed numerous courses. (see table below). My greatest achievement is doing a dive to a depth of 150m.

Safety Officer: Jakob Iten

“My love for adventure led me to start my diving career in 2004, working my way through the various courses till I received my Instructor qualification in 2021. My addiction is Cave & Deep diving, with a strong focus on the planning and safe execution of these types of dives. Approximately 50% of my +-350 dives have been spent in depths deeper than 30m or exploring caves. Along with Wondergat & Komati Springs, my most memorable dives have been the SS Thisltegorm in the Red Sea and going beyond the 100m mark at Boesmansgat.”

Public Relations Officer: Jacqui Oelofse

I am Meyerton Scuba’s Public Relations Officer. I help plan events and communicate information with club members. These events include dive outings, as well as fun activities for the club like gliding, ziplining and dry caving. I joined the club in September 2015, when I did my one-star training. Since then, I have done the shark diver course, Oxygen Administration as well as the rescue course. I have dived at Sodwana, Aliwal, Dubai and Thailand. My next diving plan is to do the 2 star course
